Gathered at the Catholic Seamen's Club,
2330 1st Ave between Bell and Battery.
-Meeting included Covenant members from Emmaus Road, Compass Center on Third, First United Methodist, Agros International, and Recovery Café.
-Father Tony Haycock and Carol Waud introduced us to their historic and current ministry, as well as insight into how our neighborhood has dramatically changed over the years.
-Discussion continued around the BELLTOWN VOLUNTEERS project, or the "getting the message out and awareness up" plan for the residential/business community. Again, the idea is to help the neighborhood understand and connect with the good work going on at the ground level. One member noted how newer condo owner/renters could gain a sense of pride about their neighborhood, based on the number of human resource efforts, both local and international, which occur around their new home. One of our roles, as a cooperative Belltown Covenant, is to help folks discern how they can help, volunteer, provide resources, right here in their own backyard. We can clear up stereotypes, misconceptions, etc., and paint a different picture of the future of the neighborhood than the visions which pit people groups against each other.
-It was pointed out that a print-based format would be costly and quickly obsolete, as personnel, addresses, programs, details, etc. continually change among our organizations. However, a simple, basic printed card/brochure could be used to drive people to a web-based resource. A web-based resource (not this NING site, which is suited for networking among Covenant partners), such as BELLTOWNCOVENANT.ORG, could be easily updated and linked to Belltown.org, the Belltown Communicy Council site, and the Belltown Business Association. An additional proposal is to place an ongoing ad in the Belltown Messenger.
1. Anyone have a web site builder available?
2. Anyone know the folks at the Belltown Messenger very well?
